All the News that Coach Jones receives in 2009

Tony Depa (2000)'s "Hoops by the Beach" Basketball Camp
Coach Depa will be entering his sixth season as Head Coach at Saint Monica Catholic High School.  A native of Lafayette, LA, Coach Depa has nine years of basketball coaching experience.  Since taking over a Saint Monica program that had won four games, Depa has won more every successive season finishing 19-10 in 2009 and advancing to th4e quarterfinals of the California Interscholastic Federation play-offs.  Coach Depat played collegiately at Kansas Wesleyan University where he was an NAIA Academic All-American.  He has worked summer camps at UCLA, Texas and LSU.  Three starters and eight letterwinners will be back for 2010.

Josh Frederick (son of Dave Frederick (1986) receivered the Tom Burns Sportsmanship award for conveying the ideals of Marquette High both in and out of the sport season.  Josh was the cross country and track captain and will be attending  college in Wisconsin this fall.

Ryan and Jenni Showman welcomed baby daughter, May 26th.  Kinsleigh Theresa is the most beautiful girl in the world, according to Ryan.

From Almir Begic (1996)  I just wanted to say hig to all the Jones Boys.  The postings bring a lot of nice memories back.  I was devastated to learn about John Edison.  My mind still cannot accept this tragic fact.  I knew John very well and spent a lot of time with him when we were at KWU.. I am going to bed now as the sun comes up very soon in this part of the Globe.  I started reading the Jones Boys web site at 3:39 am.  All the best to all of you.  (almirb@global.t-bird.edu)

From Gary Sisler.  My wife (Kelly( and I had our first baby on Dec. 23, 08.  Lola Grace is adorable and had definitely changed my life for the better.  I am good and have a great family which I am thankful for every day.  I often think back on my time playing ball at KW.  I am thankful for the many lessons about life and the many things I learned about basketball.  I still plaly all the time and my love the the game has never waivered.  Sometimes I just go shoot to clear my had and I always feel better after I get a good sweat in.  My Uncle Jerry Sisler plays golf with Coach Jones on the senior circuit Tuesdays at the Salina Elks Golf Club.
I always remember the fun times, good food, encouragement and support that Dick and Leah (both very special people) alwary provided.  God Bless them both!

From Rodney "Hot Rod" Kirschner.  When I left KWU, I went into coaching with my father at Woodlawn High School in Baton Rouge, LA ,helping build some young leaders and still getting to play a bit.  I became Director of Basketball Operations at Southeastern Louisiana University for two years and am currently a Graduate Assistant Basketball Coach at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, LA.  Things have been going really well for me and I credit some of that to my time at KW.  I have tried to do a better job of stayhing in contact with former Coyotes, but we all know how busy the seasons can be.  I am getting married to Stephanie Richardson who I met while I was in Salina (down here in good old Cajun Country on Jun 19, 2009), and I am very excited.  My father is still coaching high school, but has switched over to girls after winnning the boys state championship.  God bless you all and take care.

Jay Morton (really from Lori).  The pictyure page link is http://www.dropshots.com/JLMorton.  And we are working on getting on Facebook.  Jay decorated Taylor's birthday cake.

Bryan Gardere (2000) sent this message.  He was the coach at Piedmont HS of Courtney and Ashley Paris (now at Oklahoma University.
Watch Piedmont's Paris Twins Sunday.  The twins who led PHS to the state basketball championship will play April 5th in the NCAA Final Four!!  The OU women's basketball team earned a trip to the Final Four beating Purdue, 74-68.  Cortney Paris had 19 points, 13 rebounds and six blocks as she led OU to a second Final Four.
Courtney is the first 4-time first team All-American in the history of college women's basketball, holds the frcord for both men and women of continuous double-doubles at 112 and the record for rebounds.  Ashley became a full time starter for OU last year and averaged 11.3, 7.9 rbs and was ranked 6th in the Big 12 in rebounds per game.  She is sixth on OU's career block list with 82.  A proud experience for the City of Piedmont!

Blake Turner married in Springfield, IL this summer.  Trent Ainsworth and Coach Jones (wife-Kathleen) attended.  Tyler Christensen was a groomsman and they looked sharp.  The braidsmaids looked magnificent.  Blake's mother saw the Jones's and Trent at the back and ushered them all to a table up front where the wine flowed freely.  Blake is again coachintg high school FOOTBALL and basketball.

Tyler Christensen is the Head Basketball Coach and Athletic Director in Mojave, AZ starting a program at a new technical high school.

Ray Kujawa came to the Coyote Golf tour and showed Coach Jones how much he had improved since his college days when golf was resurrected and Ray was merely competent.  Nowadays Ray is Good!

Russ Pleiman brought son, Brandon to the HOA basketball camp in Salina this summer.  Brandon made the All-Star team.  Russ says in runs into Scott Bennett a coule of times a year as their kids play ball in tournaments together.  Ryan Ellis and Jimmy Casas are doing good, busy with kids sports.

From Tommy Webb  I have been moving around a little bit and gotten married and had a son, the greatest joy of my life to date.  I just lose touch with the guys over time.  It seems like it's been forever.  I moved back to Atlanta, GA.  I lived in Irvine, CA, for about 13 months.   Saw Tony Depa a few times while out there, so that was cool.  I also talked to Gatewood a few times over the web.  Saw one of Shawn Ellis's games against San Diego Stae.
I don't really remember the games or tournaments or anything like that.  I do remember ironing my Nike wearm-ujps and burned a hole in the leg.  You gave me your pants right before we went to that tournament in St. Louis.  That meant a lot to me then and stuck with me.  Although there was the two Thanksgivings dinners together when we were the only two people on campus!  I needed a coach and my days at KWU have helped me become the man that I am (my wife thanks you too.)  I'll send some pics.  (still waiting, Tommy.)

  Scott "Jacknife" Brown
Fowler Junior High Football team coached by the Jacknife starting out 3-0 with wins of 40-6, 56-14 & 64-14.  Says some studs playing for him and great kids too that are fun to be around.

Eric Chaves:  Graduate in Dec. from Univ of Central Florida in Orlando with a business degree.  Moving on to Masters in Sport Management at West Virginia University.  Glad to see Trey Sims had a good year and wonder if he'll continue playing anywhere.  I'll always remember the practices, road trips and teammates from KWU.

Doug Key was a Chicago Try-out at Park College watching a few of his ex-players tring to find a place.  I mentioned to a guy next to me that I was wondering if Doug Key was anywhere around and that he had played for me when I heard this laugh and "I knew that was Coach Jones" behind me.  Doug still looks the same as when he was All-KCAC in FB and played basketball.  He has a son playing D-I basketball nowadays.  How time flies.

Tim Parker's kids are active in football, volleyball, band, dance, basketball and church.  It's mostly fun, but a lot of work.  Things are good on our end.

Scott Brown's football team finished undefeated with their closest game being 40-6.  Great kids and looking forward to basketball season both players and coach.
